In the Community Galleries, the museum presents a private collection of paintings by Josep María García-Llort, a Catalan avant-garde painter who lived and worked in Pineville during the 1950s alongside his wife, Martha Crockett, an art professor at Louisiana College. García-Llort and Crockett met while studying in Paris, married in 1953 and relocated to Pineville in 1954. The works featured in the exhibition were created primarily during the 1970s and reflect the bold expressionist style of the period through flat fields of color and strong linear compositions. García-Llort’s artistic influences include Pablo Picasso, Antoni Tàpies, Josep Palau i Fabre and Albert Ràfols-Casamada. The artworks included in the exhibition have been generously loaned to the museum by the Freedman family.
