Metamorphosis is defined as a change of physical form, structure, or substance by supernatural means; a striking alteration in appearance, character, or circumstances and more or less, an abrupt developmental change in the form of structure.

From November 3, 2023 to January 4, 2024 the Alexandria Museum of Art will present the works of 17 eco-conscious artists that create art from materials that are usually discarded including wood, metal, glass, plastic, textiles, paper and found objects.

These artists repurpose materials and items to make incredible two and three-dimensional works of art. “Upcycling” everyday waste for functional or aesthetic purposes informs the community about the benefits of making functional and aesthetic use of what we define as “waste”, thereby contributing to a circular economy.

The artwork presented in this exhibition addresses environmental issues and the increased awareness and behavioral changes we need in order to adjust how we live and act on a daily basis and to protect our ecosystem, reduce pollution and conserve natural resources.

The exhibition is curated by internationally award winning artist Eric Hess. Hess has incorporated recycled materials in his work and utilizes recycled materials in the art classes offered by the nonprofit he founded, Sanctuary Arts School in Shreveport, Louisiana.
