Summer Art Camps

Professional artists and art educators guide and encourage young artists through thematic week-long classes during the summer break. Students tour exhibitions, learn to appreciate various art forms, and become inspired through hands-on sessions. All art activities are challenging but age-appropriate and are sure to ensure a great summer art experience for your children.

All of our summer camps are half day programs.

6-9 year olds meet 9am-12pm

10-12 year olds meet 1pm-4pm

$100 for AMoA members ~ $130 for non-members

The Science of Art and Mind – with a little History LIVE Summer Art Camp

Young artists will explore famous artists and discover how they play and experiment with the elements to create their own unique works of art, inspired by nature and beyond. This will be an active week of stretching bodies, minds and hands.

The Art of Today: Discovering Contemporary Art LIVE Summer Art Camp

The Contemporary Art movement is generally defined as artwork produced during the late 20th and early 21st centuries.  In this camp we will study a different contemporary artist each day, learn about their life and work, and make an art project inspired by them.  The projects are Tim Burton self-portraits, Takashi Murakami color wheel flowers, Yayoi Kusama pumpkins, Louise Bourgeois spider sculptures, and Jean Michel Basquiat paintings.

Gallery Groove from Home VIRTUAL Summer Art Camp

Enjoy AMoA Summer Camp from the comfort and safety of your home. Museum Educator, Cindy Blair will guide campers in creating original works of art inspired by art from the museum's exhibitions and even give campers a sneak peek into AMoA's art vault! Activities will include a balance of sculpture, drawing and painting! All supplies and materials will be mailed or hand delivered to the address provided during registration.

With the generous support of the Alexandria Rotary Club, AMoA is pleased to offer Summer Camp Scholarships. Teachers can nominate their students to receive a free spot in camp based on need, love for art and enthusiasm for learning. Download an application, complete your section and send to parents. Family Art Classes

Children of all ages will enjoy our Family Classes, where parents/grandparents and children create art together while learning about the Museum’s current exhibitions.

Youth Art Month Festival and Student Competition

Youth Art Month is an annual observance each March to emphasize the value of art and art education for all children and to encourage public support for quality school art programs. YAM provides a forum for acknowledging skills that are not possible in other subjects.
