In 2017, AMoA revisited their healthy lifestyle programing, and envisioned “Healthy Living @AMoA”. Building on the long-running “Yoga in the Gallery” and “Meet Me at the Museum” programs, “HL@AMoA” now offers something for everyone. Towards the end of the Summer last year, Shannon Brewer, of Lux Studios - Lotus Vibes in the Downtown Holiday Inn, came on, and began to oversee “Yoga in the Gallery”. In the Spring this year, we began implementing the new programs that were developing, sponsored by The Rapides Regional Medical Center.
“Saturday Morning Qi Gong” was launched in October last year, and has been very successful. Qi Gong is offered every Saturday morning at 10:30am, and is taught by Paul Nettles, of The Levee Tai Chi School. The first “Kids Yoga” class was held earlier in the year at our annual Youth Art Month Festival, and is offered as a free “Second Saturday” Program, meeting at 10:30am every month. In addition to the new regular programing, two Healthy Living @AMoA Learning Sessions will be offered this year.
On July 28th at 2pm, our Summer Learning Session will be “Healthy Eating, Healthy Living” with Chrystal Meginley, RD, LDN with Rapides Regional Medical Center. Learn the latest information on how to eat healthy. Discussion topics range from portion size, food groups, daily intake and seasonal choices to eating for specific health issues and problems with fad diets. Come learn how to make healthy choices and get your questions answered about what should be on your plate! On September 22, at 2pm, join us for the “Sugar Blues” Learning Session, led by Certified Health Coach, Maria Olagues, and learn to end your sugar cravings. This class is designed to permanently change your relationship with sugar, give you an understanding of the causes of sugar cravings, provide practical tools for dealing with them, and the freedom to eat foods you love and have sweetness in your life without the side effects or the guilt.
