Elizabeth Chubbuck Weinstein

Elizabeth Chubbuck Weinstein is a consultant serving museums, arts organizations and private collectors, an independent art curator, and a freelance writer.

She is the former Chief Curator and Director of Interpretation for the Louisiana Art & Science Museum (LASM) in Baton Rouge. Under her visionary leadership at LASM from 2002 to 2020, she transformed the museum into a nationally recognized venue for contemporary fine art. She produced over 100 dynamic exhibitions and related programming, many of them interdisciplinary approaches exploring the connections between art and science. She also curated solo shows focused on the work of renowned artists including Sam Gilliam, Peter Halley, Howardena Pindell, Faith Rinngold, and Keith Sonnier as well as that of notable local and regional contemporary artists.

Weinstein has served in senior management roles at the New Orleans Museum of Art and the Alexandria Museum of Art, where she was Curator of Collections & Exhibitions from 1990 to 1993. She spent five years working in development and grant making positions, including leading the grant program at the Louisiana Endowment for the Humanities, and four years in commercial art sales in London and New Orleans, where she managed Galerie Simonne Stern on Julia Street.

Weinstein was honored in 2017 with the Louisiana Association of Museums Career Professional Award. She is a past President of the Louisiana Association of Museums and the Louisiana Art Conservation Alliance and is a former gubernatorial appointee to the Louisiana State Arts Council. Weinstein holds an MA in Post War and Contemporary Art History from Sotheby’s Institute in London, accredited by Manchester University, and two BA degrees cum laude from Newcomb College of Tulane University.
