The Seamstress series integrates the work of photography, pencil and paint with those of the arts and color choices of the seamstress, for so many generations one of the only professions open to women. The women in my family were rarely without a needle in their hands. Last year I found some sewing sample-book pages. With tactile memories abounding, it’s been intriguing to take fragments from them, add the universal tools of thread and needles, and turn them into energetic constructivist compositions.
