Get a taste of Craft Beer, BBQ and Blues at Alexandria Museum of Art

 Join Alexandria Museum of Art (AMoA) for its annual fundraiser, Craft Brews, BBQ & Blues, on Saturday, August 23, 2014, from 6:30 to 9pm. Tickets are $50 in advance and $55 at the door. They can be purchased at AMoA, by calling the Museum at (318) 443-3458, emailing Steve Farnsley at steve@themuseum.org, or for $55 at the door. This event is for guests age 21 and older.

Craft Brews, BBQ & Blues will feature a feast for the palate! Mouth-watering Deep South brisket, pulled-pork, ribs and chicken BBQ, will be prepared by local BBQ masters. The Red River Bank Hogs, Nuts and Bolts Bar-B-Q, Team Budweiser and All Smoked Up, and Recycled Meats BBQ teams will be offering their mouth-watering fare at different tasting stations throughout the Museum. Guests can donate $1 to vote for their favorite BBQ team serving station and food.

Guests will be able to sample an array of the best of craft brews provided by Southwest Beverages, Inc. and Venture Marketing. Brew samples will include selections from Bayou Teche, Covington, Tin Roof, New Belgium, Founders, Santa Fe, Goose Island, Leinenkuge, Magic Hat, and Harpoon breweries.

An array of side dishes, as well as non-alcoholic beverages, will also be available.

The Bobby Rhodes Band will entertain the crowd in the Museum’s upstairs galleries with their style of jazz and blues. In the downstairs galleries Ladies Sing the Blues -- from Blue Moon to Blue Bayou -- featuring Karen Riley Simmons on vocals, and Ellene Owens on vocals and piano.

Guests will be able to tour AMoA’s exhibitions, including Dorothea Lange’s America, black and white photographs depicting Lange’s personal documentation of Depression-era American life; Through the Eyes of Sarah Albritton, memory paintings by the Ruston-based artist; and Artist Among Us: Faculty & Friends, sponsored by Associate Community Partners Greg and Hope O’Quin and showcasing works by Central Louisiana artists. All exhibitions are supported by GAEDA.

Guests can also bid on works by selected artists in a silent auction. The artworks reflect the blues theme of the event.  Bidding will end and winners announced at 8:30 .

Proceeds from Craft Brews, BBQ & Blues will help support education, community programs, and exhibitions at AMoA. The mission of the Alexandria Museum of Art is to preserve, exhibit and promote visual art in the area in a way that contributes to the quality of life in Central Louisiana. To accomplish this, AMoA provides education programming in order to advance the public’s knowledge of and appreciation for the value of art as a source of beauty, inspiration, information and expression.
